Many belief that statement, Obama included.
That this proposed health care reform is the solution to our debt. Hence Obama’s focus on pushing health care as his top priority.
Yet, efforts to create enough money to start up and maintain this has raised the expected 2010 deficit (1.6 trillion to be the new estimate).
Yet our current health care as of now covers the vast majority of Americans.
Also to put into prospective Obama claims 47 million are uninsured (Besides Obama’s word, I can’t back up this number, also this would include non citizens and those who chose not to get insurance), which compared to just US citizens, it’s15% without insurance.
This means we have a system where about 10% or less of American citizens are uninsured, obviously not perfect but not terrible either
There are 3 major concerns at the moment, unemployment, currency strength, and our debt.
The purpose of the Stimulus was to curb unemployment, unemployment rose past the point of what was predicted if we didn’t pass the stimulus.
The health care reform is suppose to reduce our debt, so while existing within a recession, tempering with health care which for the most part is holding up, and can be addressed later,
Why does health care need to be tacked as of now?
Do you believe health care reform will cover more people, not ration, and reduce our debt?
I don’t believe not having health care, makes you sick, I’m not saying it’s good that people are not covered either, through this health care reform is definitely not utilitarian.
All views are appreciated though
@ Drixnot
People get more out of SS than what they put in, this is possible because our economy was growing and out population base is growing (more new people more tax rev), thus SS is funded greatly through taxes itself.
@ Drixnot, I believe the public option is payed for through taxes, thus the middle class will be forking the bill, also if paying for the public option is mandatory, having a private option is just additional costs to the public one, thus more are going to be stuck with the pulbic version, with the rich being the only ones who are going to afford private.
@froggy, we are in a reccesion, and in such efforts should be done to minimalize it, Obama has surged Afgan on top of this, when are efforts going to be placed to reduce the 3 things I listed?
"If you have a private plan you will be EXCLUDED from the tax"
if that is the case, where is the revenue going to come from?
Those without private versions are without because they can’t afford them, correct?
