  1. The solution is to stop paying her debts. She and her husband have to pay them. If they are able to keep up with the minimums and have enough extra to start paying down one card at a time, then that’s what they should do. It would also be a good idea for them to call each credit card company and try to negotiate a lower interest rate for each card.

It also wouldn’t hurt to sell of of the things that your sister bought, and apply the proceeds to paying off the debt. That might help to make the balances more manageable.

  2. The reasons why she did what she did could be endles..but a solution is to try getting a low intrest consoladtion loan from your bank ..Will pay down the debt faster and usually cheaper monthly rates. Ive been there befor and it worked.

  3. If your sister ran up the debt, she should pay it, not you, her brother or anyone else (except maybe her husband). So tell your sister, sorry, but you are not giving her any more money to pay the credit cards back. Unless of course you cosigned on any of them. I’m not sure why you are willing to pay her debt off for her! I know my sister and brother would never dream of paying my credit cards for me!

  4. The ONLY person who is liable for paying those debts is YOUR SISTER. Unless you (and your sister) are in a community property state, no one in your family, or her husband, are required to pay your sister’s debts. There is NO LAW that can force you to pay HER debts.

If you/she is in a community property state, then her husband is equally liable for the debt but he would be the only one.

  5. You are the problem.

    Stop paying her debts.

Let her deal with the Debt Collectors.
